Rural Youth Project wins award for film

Sheppey Rural Youth Project has won another award for a film about bullying. The film was developed by children and young people attending the Bay Kidz Club and Youth Club at Warden Bay Village Hall.

Children and young people from the project attended a star-studded evening at the Avenue Theatre in Sittingbourne. Susannah York attended the evening as well as the highly acclaimed Kent film director, Jan Dunn. The award follows a Swale TryAngle award for enterprise earlier in February. The film made by the children and young people is just one example of ground-breaking media work carried out by the clubs. Singing and dancing activities delivered by professional local tutors are also included in the low-cost programme.

“I’m really pleased at how the clubs have developed since we first set them up in 2005,” said Mike Brown, Chair of Sheppey Matters, which runs the clubs in partnership with the village hall and Swale Borough Council. “We have funidng to continue the clubs until December 2009 and we hope that potential funders will be impressed by the children’s achievements,” he continued. Current funders include BBC Children in Need and Connexions.
